REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey senior Sarah Modzelewski posted her second straight shutout and fifth overall while senior Megan Alexander scored the game's only goal as the Mustangs posted their seventh straight home win Sunday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

The Mustangs (10-0-1) have posted seven shutouts this season and have allowed just two goals in their last seven games. The team leads all of Division III in scoring defense, allowing just 0.50 goals per game.

The teams combined for just 11 shots in the opening period while the Cougars (3-7-0) killed off all three power play opportunities for Stevenson, including a five-minute major. But the hosts were able to find the back of the net as Alexander finished in front of the net on assists from sophomores Kellen Wittman and Savannah Sommers.

The assist was Wittman's first point since January 24, 2015 while Sommers recorded her second point of the season and first assist.

After getting outshot 13-9 in the second period, the Mustangs outshot Chatham 15-4 in the final period. Stevenson's defense totaled 12 blocked shots, including six in the second period. Senior Sydney Hughes totaled a game-high three blocked shots while classmate Jessie Capanelli finished with two.

The Mustangs penalty kill continued to dominate, killing off all five power play opportunities for the Cougars. Stevenson ranks second in the nation in penalty kill, having killed off 46 of its 47 opportunities behind only Franklin Pierce who is a perfect 35-for-35.

The hosts won 33 of the 57 face-off opportunities. Alexander and sophomore Chelsea Blackburn were a combined 14-for-19.

Stevenson begins a 10-day road trip on Wednesday, January 6 when the Mustangs travel to No. 4 Adrian. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
