Schwartz Leads Mustangs in Wins over Swarthmore and CCNY

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Stevenson women's volleyball sophomore Annika Schwartz totaled 19 kills, 17 digs and three service aces as the Mustangs defeated host Swarthmore and CCNY in day two of the Haverford/Swarthmore Invitational Sunday afternoon at Tarble Pavilion.

The Mustangs (3-1) defeated Swarthmore 18-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 before dominating CCNY in straight-sets, 25-10, 25-7, 25-8.

Schwartz was named to the All-Tournament team after totaling 39 kills and 40 digs in three games.

The Garnets (1-3) got off to a strong start, leading Stevenson by as many as 13 points in the first set. The Mustangs would get as close as six in the set, but Sarah Wallace totaled three of the final six points as Swarthmore would take opening set.

Stevenson led by as many as 12 in the second set as the Mustangs committed just one error. Junior Kristen Brooks totaled five kills in the set, as she accounted for four of Stevenson first seven points.

The Mustangs started the third set on an 8-1 run, before Swarthmore slowly began to cut the deficit and rallied to tie the game at 18-18. Stevenson however, would finish the game on a 7-1 run to take a two sets to one lead.

The fourth set was back and forth early as the teams combined for four lead changes and five ties. Led by three kills from Schwartz, the Mustangs scored eight of the final 13 points to close out the set.

Stevenson totaled a season-high .312 hitting percentage and a season-low 10 errors.

Schwartz and Brooks combined for 32 kills and 32 digs in the match while junior Sara Bollinger totaled 51 assists. It is the third time in her career that she has totaled at least 50 assists in a match.

The Mustangs dominated in game two against CCNY, allowing just 25 points in a straight-sets win. Stevenson totaled a .311 hitting percentage compared to -.217 for the Beavers (0-5).

Stevenson returns to action on Wedenesday, September 9 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth conference contest versus Lebanon Valley in their home opener. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
