Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - The Stevenson field hockey team received goals from freshman Sara McVey and juniors Rosemarie Neiva and Holli Eppley as the Mustangs earned their first victory of the season, 3-1, over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon at Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.
Despite being outshot 10-9, the Mustangs (1-6) took advantage of their scoring opportunities and scored a season-high three goals for the second-straight game. Stevenson has scored six goals over its last two games after scoring just one in its first five.
McVey scored her first career goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead, 13:41 into the game. Neiva scored her team leading third goal of the season and doubled the Mustangs lead 38 seconds before the half.
Eppley gave the Mustangs a 3-0 lead in the 52nd minute with an unassisted tally. All three Stevenson goals today and five of its seven on the season have been unassisted.
The Hornets (1-4) avoided their third shutout of the season as Kelani Bailey scored off of an assist from Presha Merritt 1:52 after Eppley's score.
Freshman Talia Parrish was not tested often in her second career start as she faced one shot on goal.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, September 23 when the Mustangs host Immaculata in their home opener. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
