Box Score 2 ASTON, Pa. - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Chelsea Blackburn finished with a goal and two assists, netting her 20th goal of the season, as the Mustangs scored three unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 4-1 victory over Neumann Tuesday at IceWorks Skating Complex.
Stevenson (16-6-1) improving to 6-0-1 over its last seven games and 10-2 on the road. The team is also 12-0 when scoring at least four goals.
With 20 goals this season, Blackburn is just the third freshman since the Mustangs' inaugural season in 2012-13 to score at least 20 goals. She is also just third player in Division III this season to reach the 20-goal mark.
Stevenson scored the only goal of the first period when junior Rachel Martell found the back of the net for the fourth time this season and the second in the last three games off an assist from Blackburn at 16:19.
The Mustangs improved to 9-0 this season when leading after one.
Neumann (6-15-2) tied the game with the lone goal of the second period when Megan Russelo scored unassisted goal at 9:00.
Stevenson broke the tie with two goals in a span of just 20 seconds midway through the third period to take a 3-1 lead. Freshman Chelsea Ellis scored her second of the season off an assist from junior Madison Lange at 9:08 before junior Katie Abbott netted her 10th on assists from Blackburn and freshman Natalie Rosendahl at 9:28.
Abbott now has points in five of her last seven games, totaling two goals and four assists.
Blackburn added an empty net goal with 1:12 left in regulation to seal the Mustangs third consecutive win against the Knights after they dropped their first four.
Stevenson outshot Neumann 35-24 while junior Anastassia Nelson improved to 6-1 in eight starts this season with 23 saves.
Chelsea Polidoro made 31 saves for the Knights.
The Mustangs conclude the 2014-15 season with back-to-back road games at SUNY Oswego who was ranked at No. 9 in the latest D3hockey.com Top 10. Faceoff on Friday is at 7:00 p.m. Follow live here.
