Box Score YORK, Pa. - Stevenson field hockey freshmen Sara McVey and Marissa Hoffman combined for six points, including the game-winning goal and assist, as the Mustangs defeated former CAC-rival York (Pa.), 3-2 in overtime Wednesday afternoon at Kinsley Field.
The Mustangs (5-7) have won five of their last six games, falling to only No. 20 Messiah, after starting the season 0-6. Stevenson also improved to 9-2 in overtime games since the start of the 2012 season, having won seven of its last eight.
Hoffman scored her first career goal on the first career point and assist by classmate Ashley Meyer just 6:02 into the game off a penalty corner.
The Mustangs doubled their lead later in the opening half as McVey's centering pass got past the goalie and found junior Rosemarie Neiva. Neiva has totaled a team-high nine goals this season, two shy of her career-high set a season ago.
The Spartans (6-5) responded in the second half with two goals in a 10:05 span to knot the game at 2-2. Ali Posey scored both goals for York (Pa.) on an unassisted goal she fired inside the right post followed by a shot to the left corner off a penalty corner by Morgan Weaver.
Freshman Talia Parrish knocked away an opening shot by the Spartans 49 seconds into the overtime period. The rookie finished a career-high 15 saves.
Hoffman tallied an assist in her second-straight game as McVey scored her fourth game-winner this season on a redirect following a penalty corner.
York (Pa.) dominated the game statistically, outshooting the Mustangs 25-9 while also holding a 14-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 10 when the Mustangs travel to Widener for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 12:00 p.m.
