Box Score READING, Pa. - Senior Ryan Callinan totaled six saves and the Stevenson men's soccer team held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks, but the Mustangs failed to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss versus Alvernia in a MAC Commonwealth contest Saturday afternoon.
Despite the loss, the Mustangs (5-10-1, 204 MAC Commonwealth) are still in the hunt for a playoff spot with two games remaining. Stevenson is one win behind the third through fifth place teams who all currently have nine points. With only five teams making the conference playoffs, the Mustangs will need to win and get some help.
The Crusaders (7-5-5, 2-3-1 MAC Commonwealth) got an unassisted tally from Adam Orndorff in the 25th minute as he beat his defender to get a shot off. The hosts would add an insurance goal in the 63rd minute as Jay Ringer found Chris Cuth off a free kick.
Stevenson played a man down for the majority of the second half as sophomore Thomas Taylor was issued a red card. The Mustangs were also issued two yellow cards while the Crusaders received four. The teams combined for 32 fouls.
Both teams recorded 11 shots, while the Mustangs outshot Alvernia, 7-6 in the second half.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, October 28 when the Mustangs travel to face Messiah in a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. Last season, the Mustangs held the then-No. 1 Falcone to a scoreless tie.
