Neiva, Young Lead Mustangs to Dominant Conference Win at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - Highlighted by four different goal scorers, including two goal by both junior Rosemarie Neiva and freshman Alexis Young, the Stevenson field hockey team posted a 6-0 victory over Hood in a MAC Commonwealth contest Thursday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.

It was the sixth-straight win for the Mustangs (10-7, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth), who have won 10 of their last 11. It was also the third-straight shutout and fifth this season. More importantly, Stevenson kept pace with Lebanon Valley for second place and remain a game behind Messiah.

Young scored just 1:25 into the contest on a double assist by freshmen Ashley Meyer and Marissa Hoffman following a penalty corner by Meyer. Five different freshmen have recorded a point this season while combining for 53 points on 19 goals and 15 assists. The group has accounted for 49 percent of the team's goals.

Two days after recording her first career goal, sophomore Kali Martin made it 2-0 in favor of the visitors as freshman Katelyn Byram found Martin on the back post following the eighth penalty corner in the opening 23 minutes. The visitors held a 15-3 advantage in penalty corners.

The Mustangs scored two more goals in the opening period, just 1:28 apart as Young scored her second of the day on an assist from junior Holli Eppley before Neiva scored off her own rebound.

Freshman Sara McVey continued her scoring dominance with a second half goal. McVey, who was named the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week on Wednesday, has scored in eight of her last 11 games.

Neiva scored the Mustangs season-high sixth goal with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game. It is Neiva's fourth multi-goal game this season and sixth of her career.

The Mustangs totaled 42 shots, a mark that ranks fourth in program history, while the Blazers (0-13, 0-5 MAC Commonwealth) totaled just three shots.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 24 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Alvernia on Senior Night beginning at 7:00 p.m.
