Women's Volleyball Clinches Top Seed in Commonwealth With 10th Straight Win

Box Score

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth championship and extended its win streak to 10 games with a 3-0 victory Wednesday night over Arcadia at Alumni Gym.  The set scores were 25-10, 25-10, 25-17.

Stevenson claimed the No. 1 seed in the MAC Commonwealth championship for the fourth consecutive season as it has gone 33-0 since joining the conference prior to the 2012 season.  The Mustangs will host a conference semifinal on Wednesday, November 4 and are in line to host the conference title game on Saturday, November 7 with a semifinal victory.

The Mustangs (23-7, 7-0 MAC Commonwealth) racked up 15 service aces, their third-highest total of the season, led by a career-high seven by sophomore Megan Hren (Baltimore, Md.).  As a team Stevenson hit .236 while limiting the Knights (9-14, 2-5 MACC) to -.082 hitting.

Hren also led Stevenson with seven digs defensively along with junior Sara Bollinger (Westminster, Md.), who also handed out 20 assists.  Senior Kelly McKenzie (Nanticoke, Md.) posted a team-high six kills, with junior Kelsey Stave (Bear, Del.) adding five.

In the first set, the Mustangs opened up a 10-5 lead on a kill by Stave that capped a run of four straight Stevenson points.  A 5-0 Stevenson run capped by a Lauren Jan (Bethedsa, Md.) kill made it 22-8, and the guests took the first set 25-10.

Stevenson put the second set away early, scoring the first nine points of the frame.  Hren had four service aces in the run, which was capped by an Annika Schwartz (Damascus, Md.) kill.  Arcadia closed to within 10-5 before seven straight Mustang points made it 17-5, with Schwartz notching a pair of aces.

In the third set the visitors again pulled away quickly, jumping out to a 9-2 lead following an Arcadia attack error.  The Knights pulled within five twice, the last time at 20-15, but Stevenson scored five of the final seven points of the match and a service ace by sophomore Deanna Bradbury (Flemington, N.J.) ended the contest.

Stevenson is idle until Tuesday, October 27 when it hosts Alvernia University in a 7:00 MAC Commonwealth match at Owings Mills Gymnasium for Senior Night.
