Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Highlighted by the first career goal by sophomore Abigail Provost, the Stevenson field hockey team posted its third-straight victory as the Mustangs defeated McDaniel, 4-2 Tuesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (7-7) have won seven of their last eight games while posting their 12th home win in the last 15 dating back to last season. The win also marked the first-ever win over McDaniel in 10 all-time meetings.
The home team made their presence felt early as freshman Alexis Young just missed on a cross from classmate Sara McVey. But it was the Green Terror (6-6) who got on the board first as Sarah Bach redirected a blast from Rachel Cressman off a penalty corner.
Just 47 seconds later, junior Rosemarie Neiva finished on a cross from McVey to tie the game a 1-1. It is the fifth-straight game Neiva has tallied a goal and eighth out of her last ninth. Meanwhile, McVey has totaled a point in eight of her last nine games.
With 2:31 remaining in the opening half, Gabrielle Yore dribbled around her defender after controlling the ball off a penalty corner and found Cressman who beat the goalie near side.
McVey nearly tied the game in the final minute of the first half after collecting the ball off a turnover and shooting near post. But Christina Gooding recorded her second save.
The Mustangs tied the game a 2-2 seven minutes into the second half as McVey received a pass from junior Blair Bitner and carried it 10 yards before firing a shot to beat the keeper low left. It is the third-straight game McVey has tallied a goal.
Provost gave Stevenson its first lead of the game as junior Holli Eppley passed the ball across the goal line after the initial Mustang shot was blocked. Junior Kim Hahr preserved the one-goal lead as she totaled three-straight saves.
McVey recorded her second multi-goal game with a tally in the 57th minute after carrying the ball 15 yards and beating the keeper low right.
Hahr finished with four saves in her first career action.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 17 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Arcadia beginning at 7:00 p.m.
