Box Score READING, Pa. - The Stevenson men's basketball team led by one with 18 seconds remaining following a dunk by junior Sean Farr, but Albright's Omari Ringgold scored on a putback with 0.6 seconds left in regulation to give the Lions a 59-58 victory in a Commonwealth Conference contest Saturday at the Bollman Center.
The loss snapped a five-game win streak for Stevenson (9-3, 2-1 MAC) and a seven-game road winning streak. The team fell to third place in the conference, half-a-game behind Lebanon Valley and Lycoming.
The game featured five ties and 11 lead changes with the Mustangs taking their largest lead of the game at 44-35 with 13:04 remaining in the second half following two made free throws by junior Chris Day.
Stevenson led by eight with 7:31 to play on a lay-up by senior Colby Giacubeno, but the Lions responded with an 11-2 run to regain the lead 53-52 following a lay-up by Ringgold with 2:48 left.
Back-to-back jumpers by juniors Christian Roberts and Erik Fisher put the Mustangs back in front by three. However, Gilberto Benz hit two free throws and Albright forced two turnovers, the last of which led to DeJuan Smith jumper with 22 seconds remaining to give the Lions a 57-56 lead.
Albright (6-5, 2-1 MAC) was 16-of-22 from the free throw line, making as many free throws as Stevenson attempted. The Lions also held a commanding 47-26 advantage in rebounds which led to 26 second-chance points, the most important of which came to win the game.
Albright scored 24 bench points, led by a game-high 16 from Benz and eight from Casey Burke.
Fisher also finished with 16 points while Roberts had 15. Day added 10 as the Mustang starters accounted for 51 of their 58 points.
Ringgold had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions while Evan Ward had nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Stevenson returns home to host a Commonwealth Conference contest versus Messiah at Owings Mills Gymnasium on Wednesday beginning at 8:00 p.m.
