Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Stevenson men's basketball team used a 19-0 run to erase a 12-point deficit with 13:05 remaining in the second half as the Mustangs posted a 69-61 victory over Hood in a Commonwealth Conference contest Wednesday evening at BB&T Arena.
With the win, the Mustangs (10-5, 3-3 MAC) snapped their three-game losing streak and jumped from fifth to third in the conference standings. Stevenson, Hood and Arcadia all have a 3-3 conference records, but the Mustangs own the head-to-head tiebreaker over both teams.
After falling behind 4-0, juniors Christian Roberts and Julian Davis knocked down three-point baskets to tie the game at 8-8. However, the Blazers (7-8, 3-3 MAC) used a 12-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 10 with 9:36 remaining.
Stevenson finished the game with six three-pointers.
A layup by Chris Cook gave Hood its third 10-point lead with 7:09 remaining, but the Mustangs used a 12-1 run to close the half and take a 26-25 lead at the break. Junior Erik Fisher scored eight points during the run, including a lay-up with nine seconds remaining.
Junior Sean Farr opened the second half with a dunk to extend the visitors' lead to three, but a three-pointer by Reggie Daniel tied the game for the third time at 28-28.
The Blazers used three consecutive three-pointers in the first three minutes of the second half to reclaim a six-point lead.
A layup by Roberts cut the Mustangs' deficit to two before an 8-0 run by Hood gave the Blazers a 10-point lead for the fourth time in the game, this time with 15:00 remaining in the second half.
Corey Martin hit the seventh three-pointer for the Blazers to give the hosts their largest lead of the game at 12 with 13:05 remaining.
Hood finished 7-of-17 from behind the arc. The Mustangs were 6-for-17.
Stevenson erased the 12-point deficit in a span of just 2:25 that was highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from senior Colby Giacubeno. The team went 8-for-13 from the field during the 19-0 run.
Facing a seven-point deficit, Hood cut the Mustangs lead to just one with 6:04 remaining, but that would be as close as the Blazers would get as Stevenson scored 10 of the final 16 points.
Roberts finished with a team-high 18 points while Giacubeno and Fisher chipped in 14 and 13, respectively. Sophomore Darius Walker totaled a game-high 10 rebounds and eight assists to go along with four points. Davis finished with nine points, six steals, three rebounds and one assist.
Davon Hill led the Blazers with a game-high 20 points, going 8-for-15 from the field and 3-for-6 beyond the arc.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday when the Mustangs travel to Lycoming for a Commonwealth Conference contest. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The Mustangs swept both games versus the Warriors a season ago.
