Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Sophomore Holli Eppley scored her first career goal before adding the game winner with 8:02 remaining in the first overtime as the Stevenson field hockey team posted a 2-1 victory over Rowan Saturday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (3-1) improve their overtime record to 4-3 in four seasons under head coach Laurel Martin, including 3-0 at home.
Eppley scored the game's first goal ten minutes into the contest on an assist from senior Caitlin Dempsey. Eppley collected a cross from Dempsey from the left side before scoring her first career points.
Sam Browne nearly tied it for the Profs (2-1) less than nine minutes later but junior Ariella Hopp came up with a big defensive save following a save by sophomore Gabriella Brooks.
Just 6:19 into the second half however, Johanna James tied the game for Rowan after knocking down a pass lifted in the air by Browne in front of the goal.
Stevenson opened the overtime period with back-to-back scoring chances as Dempsey could not put away a breakaway opportunity. Down the other end, Brooks came up with a huge stop after a miskick gave Jenna Pressler an open shot.
Dempsey had another chance but her shot went just wide after a pass form senior Alison Kagel found her opened on the back side.
The Mustangs once again found themselves with another breakaway opportunity and this time they put it away. Dempsey carried the ball down the left side of the field before crossing it in front of the net for Eppley.
Brooks finished with nine saves while her counterpart Carly DeMarco totaled six.
Stevenson outshot the Profs 16-13 including 4-1 in overtime. Rowan held a 13-5 advantage in penalty corners.
The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday, September 9 when they host a non-conference contest versus local-rival Goucher beginning at 7:00 p.m.
