Box Score 2 BIDDEFORD, Maine - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Chelsea Blackburn scored power-play goals early in the second period and late in the third to lead the Mustangs to a 2-0 victory over the University of New England on Saturday at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Mustangs (7-2) extended their record winning streak to five-straight and are just win shy of tying last year's total.
The win also marked the second shutout for the team this season after it had just one in 47 games prior to this year.
After a scoreless first period, Blackburn put the visitors in front at the 3:11 mark of the middle stanza, scoring from in close off passes from junior McKenzie Taggart and junior captain Tori Emoff.
Blackburn then doubled the margin with 24 seconds left on the man-advantage and 37 seconds left in regulation off assists from Taggart and junior Brooke Webber.
Stevenson finished the game 2-for-4 on the power play and was 5-for-12 in two games against the Nor'easters (3-7-1). On the season, the Mustangs are now scoring on over one-fourth of their power play opportunities.
In goal, junior Anastassia Nelson stopped all 35 shots faced to earn her first career shuout. Her counterpart, Courtney Kendall, made 34 saves for UNE.
The Mustangs will take the next three weeks off before hosting Hamline on December 27 and 28 at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
