Hot Shooting Second Half Carries Mustangs Past Gators For Fifth-Straight Win

MEADVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson men's basketball junior Erik Fisher and sophomore Darius Walker combined for 25 second-half points while the Mustangs shot 72.0 percent from the floor and were 6-of-9 from three-point range en route to an 82-73 non-conference road victory over Allegheny Tuesday afternoon at the Wise Center.

Stevenson (9-2) picked up its fifth-straight win while improving to 5-0 on the road this season. The team has now won seven consecutive road contests dating back to Feb. 5, 2014.

For the game, the Mustangs shot 63.3 percent from the field, its highest percentage since the 2006-07 season. They were 18-for-25 in the second half while outscoring the Gators, 48-35.

Since the 2006-07, Stevenson has shot 60.0 percent better just three times. The previous two came on Jan. 4, 2014 at Widener (60.3) and Dec. 29, 2012 at Skidmore (62.5).

The Mustangs, who trailed by as many as six in the first half, took their first lead with 19:01 remaining in the second on a three-pointer by junior Chris Day.

After Allegheny (5-5) regained the lead on a three by Evan Zabriski with 17:13 to play, Stevenson used an 18-5 run over the next 8:08 to take its largest lead of the game at 61-50 with 9:05 left. Fisher had six points during the run while junior Sean Farr added four and Walker and junior Christian Roberts each hit one three-pointer.

The Gators would cut their deficit down to five with 1:56 remaining on a lay-up by Chris Milton, but Walker hit his second three-pointer of the game before a steal and fastbreak lay-up by Roberts quickly pushed the lead back to 10 with 1:06 left.

Fisher totaled 15 of his 17 points in the second half while Walker added 10. The duo combined to shoot 10-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line.

Senior Colby Giacubeno tied his career-high with a game-high 20 points off the bench, equaling his mark set in a 105-100 victory over Widener on Jan. 4, 2014. Farr finished with 14 points and four rebounds.

Zabriski and Josh Valentic each had 18 points for Allegheny who got just five points from its bench. Evan Schweitzer totaled nine points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Stevenson travels to Albright for a Commonwealth Conference contest this Saturday, January 3 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
