Harmon, Tarbert Combine for 40 Points in Mustangs Win Over Widener

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by a combined seven steals by senior Kyarra Harmon and sophomore Sara Tarbert, the Stevenson women's basketball team forced 26 turnovers which lead to 36 points en route to a 75-53 victory over Widener in a Commonwealth Conference contest Tuesday evening at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

With the win, the Mustangs (5-2, 2-0 MAC) totaled their first-ever win against Widener and have now beaten every school in the conference. With two-straight conference wins to start the season, Stevenson is also tied for first in the league with Albright.

After the Pride (4-6, 0-3 MAC) hit the first basket of the game with six seconds remaining on the shot clock, Stevenson turned up the defense and scored the next seven, sparked by a steal and three-point basket by Tarbert.

An 11-0 run, highlighted by a three-pointer by junior Stephanie Martinez and a steal and layup by senior Ty Bender, pushed the Mustangs lead to 14. However, Widener was able to stay within reach, going 6-for-8 from the free throw line after reaching the bonus with 9:03 remaining in the first half.

The Pride would get as close as nine late in the half, but senior Kayleigh Guzek knocked down two free throws after gathering an offensive rebound with two seconds remaining.

Guzek finished the game 5-for-6 from the line and has made 21-of-24 this season.

The Mustangs started the second half right where they left off with back-to-back steals and layups to extend their lead to 15 within the first 45 seconds of the period.

Stevenson shot a season-best 50.0 percent from the floor and has forced at least 23 turnovers in every game this season.

Tarbert finished with her sixth-straight double double with 22 points and 14 rebounds, both game-highs. Meanwhile, Harmon totaled a season-best 18 points. Harmon has posted double digit points in three of her last four games.

Brianna Wylie led Widener with 10 points while Kristina Reiter finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.

Stevenson will head to Daytona Beach, Florida to play two games at the Daytona Beach Shootout beginning with Oneonta State on Friday, December 19. Game time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
