Senior Duo Combine for 14 Points in 7-0 Victory Versus Hood

OWINGS MILLS, Md.Alison Kagel scored a career-high four goals while Caitlin Dempsey added two goals and two assists as the senior duo led the Stevenson field hockey team to a 7-0 Commonwealth Conference victory versus Hood Tuesday evening at Mustang Stadium.

Even with the win, the Mustangs (12-7, 4-3 MAC) were eliminated from conference playoff contention as Alvernia defeated Widener to maintain the fourth and final playoff spot.

Stevenson totaled a season-high seven goals while also posting its third shutout and second-straight. The Mustangs defeated the Blazers by an identical score a season ago.

Kagel scored her fifth game-winning goal and fourth in the last five games as a pass from Dempsey found Kagel wide open on the back post. Just 2:44 later, Dempsey added her 20th goal of the season.

Early in the second half, sophomore Rosemarie Neiva converted on her fourth penalty stroke of the season and is four-for-five on the year. Neiva has scored four goals in the last three games.

Kagel scored the first of three-straight goals as a pass from 15 yards out from classmate Meg Gill found Kagel on the near post. Just 2:42 later Kagel scored on a redirect from sophomore Holli Eppley.

With a goal in the 48th minute, Kagel completed the 8:15 hat trick as her and Dempsey paired up for the eighth time this year. Kagel has scored nine goals in the last five games.

The all-time leader in points and goals, Dempsey became the school's all-time assist leader with the 23rd of her career. Meanwhile, Kagel became the fifth different player to score four goals in a single game. Dempsey totaled four goals in the season opener on August 29.

Dempsey added her second goal of the game and 21st of the season on an assist from Gill who has totaled seven assists this season after coming into the year with just one. Dempsey leads the conference with 55 points.

The duo of Dempsey and Kagel is the highest scoring duo in school history for a career and a season. The have combined for 189 points on 80 goals and 29 assists. This season they have amassed 94 points on 39 goals and 16 assists.

Stevenson will await selections for the ECAC Division III Field Hockey Championship, which will take place on Monday, November 10.
