Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Seniors Alison Kagel and Caitlin Dempsey combined for eight points as the Stevenson field hockey team set a new school record with 11 wins as the Mustangs defeated Albright 5-0 in a Commonwealth Conference contest Saturday evening on senior night at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (11-7, 3-3 MAC) totaled five goals for the fourth time this season while also posting its second shutout.
Kagel put Stevenson on the board just 5:51 into the contest as sophomore Rosemarie Neiva passed the ball in front of the goal and Kagel put it away from four yards out.
Dempsey added an insurance goal with 6:28 remaining in the first half for her team leading 18th goal of the season on an assist from classmate Ariella Hopp.
Dempsey nearly had her second of the day five minutes into the second half as she was alone of a breakaway, but she was not able to get off the sweeping shot.
Kagel added her second of the game and 14th of the season midway through the second half on an assist from Dempsey. With the assist, Dempsey is now one shy of tying the school record.
With her second goal of the game, Dempsey surpassed her own record set a year ago with her 19th goal of the season. Just 2:20 later, Neiva scored an unassisted goal to push the score to 5-0.
Senior Katelynn DeFiore made her first career start in goal and totaled one save. Gabby Frake led the Lions (2-16, 2-4 MAC) with two saves.
In pregame ceremonies, the Mustangs honored seniors Dempsey, DeFiore, Hopp, Kagel, Brooke Few and Meg Gill.
Stevenson concludes the regular season on Tuesday, October 28 when the Mustangs host Hood in a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Mustangs are currently in fifth place in the conference standing with the top four advancing to the playoffs. Stevenson must win and get help from Widener who plays on Tuesday.
