Mustangs Total Season-High 22 Steals in 61-43 Conference Win Over Hood

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's basketball junior Ty Bender and sophomore Caitlin Roy both totaled a career-high six steals as the Mustangs forced 33 turnovers in a 61-42 Commonwealth Conference victory over Hood Wednesday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

With the win, Stevenson (10-8, 8-3 MAC) has now won six of the last seven games against Hood and takes a 12-11 lead in the all-time series.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after four consecutive steals and lay-ups, including two by Bender. The team finished with 13 steals in the first half and a season-high 22 for the game, which ranks sixth all-time.

Stevenson used an 11-0 run in the first half to push its lead to 11 while holding Hood scoreless for a span of 6:55. The Mustangs gave up just six points and one made field goal over the final 13:15 of the first half.

The Blazers (5-13, 2-9 MAC), who shot just 25 percent on 5-of-20 shooting, totaled 24 turnovers in the first half leading to 25 points for Stevenson.

Bender finished with a game-high 14 points while adding three rebounds and three assists. Roy totaled six points, eight rebounds, two blocks and one assist.

Hood was led by Rachel Kessler who totaled 10 points, four rebounds, four steals and one assist.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, February 1 when it travels to Alvernia for a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Mustangs defeated the Crusaders earlier this season 66-61 on Nov. 26, 2013.
