Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Davon Hill hit two free throws with 11 seconds remaining while Reggie Daniels made the game-sealing block to lift visiting Hood over the Stevenson men's basketball team 63-62 Wednesday evening at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Four of the Mustangs' (13-5, 8-3 MAC) five losses this season have been when the team has shot under 40.0 percent from the floor. The team shot just 39.7 percent on 25-of-63 shooting.
Sophomore Christian Roberts opened the scoring with a three-pointer just 24 seconds into the game, but the Blazers (14-4, 8-3 MAC) scored 10 of the next 11 points to take a six-point lead.
Hood pushed its lead to nine with 1:55 remaining before Stevenson scored the final six points of the half to cut its deficit to 30-27 at the break.
After the Mustangs tied the game at 36, the Blazers would push their lead once again to nine with 13:07 remaining in the second half.
A jumper by Roberts at the 4:28 mark would tie the game for the fourth time at 58.
Stevenson took its first lead of the game after a layup by senior Stefon McCray with 1:24 left.
Following a turnover by Hood, freshman Darius Walker missed a deep three-pointer as the shot clock was expiring. Hill was fouled by sophomore Erik Fisher after both dove after the loose rebound.
Senior Alfonzo Hawkins' final attempt was blocked by Daniels in the lane as time expired.
Junior Justin Kuntz posted his seventh double double with a team-high 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Fisher finished with 14 points and six rebounds while Roberts added eight points and five assists.
Hood was led by Cameron Cook who finished with a game-high 18 points to go along with nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, February 1 when it travels to Alvernia for a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Mustangs defeated the Crusaders 75-52 earlier this season on Nov. 26, 2013.
