Kuntz, Fisher Lead Mustangs in 65-63 Loss at Elizabethtown

Box Score

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Stevenson men's basketball sophomore Erik Fisher converted a layup with six seconds remaining, but Phil Wegner hit a running three pointer to give Elizabethtown a 65-63 Commonwealth Conference victory Wednesday at Thompson Gymansium.

The Mustangs (12-4, 7-2 MAC), who made a season-low one three-pointer for the second time this year, shot under 40 percent for just the fourth time this season, with three of those games being losses.

The two teams traded baskets for the first 10 minutes before Stevenson went on a 10-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 20-10 with 6:59 remaining in the first half.

However, the Blue Jays (7-9, 4-5 MAC) would hold the Mustangs scoreless for the final 5:57 of the half and go on a 15-0 run to take a 28-23 halftime lead.

A layup by Fisher with 1:58 remaining in the contest tied the game for the sixth time before senior Alfonzo Hawkins gave Stevenson just its second lead of the half.

Will Schlosser converted Elizabethown's first of two three-pointers in the final minute of the game to give the Blue Jays a one-point lead with 26 seconds remaining.

After Fisher and Wegner traded go-ahead baskets, the Mustangs failed to get a chance for a final heave with two seconds remaining as the final pass was picked off.

Junior Justin Kuntz posted his sixth double double of the season while Fisher posted his second, both finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Hawkins and freshman Darius Walker each added 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Hawkins also totaled a career-high seven steals which ranks fourth all-time in program history.

The Blue Jays, who outrebounded the Mustangs 49-43, were led by Lee Eckert who finished with a game-high 14 points and 12 rebounds. Andrew Mantz, who stole the final pass, also recorded a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, January 25 when it hosts Arcadia in a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Mustangs defeated the Knights 87-81 in double overtime on Dec. 7, 2013.
