REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Ashley Ryan had two goals and one assist in the opening period as No. 3-ranked Elmira scored four goals in the game's first 13 minutes as the Soaring Eagles handed the Stevenson women's ice hockey team a 5-0 loss Saturday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

The loss was just the second in six homes games for the Mustangs (5-11-1) this season, but the second-straight by shutout. It was also the team's second shutout in as many meetings against Elmira who won 3-0 a year ago at the Murray Athletic Center.

Sophomore McKenzie Bruch totaled 34 saves in the loss while sophomore Sarah Modzelewski had 12 as the Soaring Eagles outshot Stevenson, 46-15. Modzelewski made a school record 50 saves in last year's meeting.

The Mustangs also blocked a season-high 16 shots, five of which came from sophomore Jessie Capanelli. A total of 10 different players blocked at least one shot.

Ryan opened the scoring just 2:21 into the first period before adding her second just 3:06 later. Ashton Hogan increased the lead to three at 11:29 before Ryan picked up her team-leading 17th assist on a goal by Tanis Lamoureux at 13:27 that gave Elmira a 4-0 lead.

The defending national champion Soaring Eagles (11-3-1) added their fifth goal on a power play goal by Katie Gaskin just two minutes into the third period.

Stevenson totaled 18 penalty minutes in the contest, but managed to limit Elmira to just one goal on nine power play opportunities.

The Mustangs travel to Neumann for a two-game set with the Knights beginning next Saturday, January 25 at 3:00 p.m. Neumann edged out a 3-2 decision earlier this season on January 3 at UMass Boston in the Codfish Bowl.
