Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson field hockey team will open the 2013 season on the road on Friday, August 30 at Neumann beginning at 7:00 p.m. The team will be looking for their second-straight season opening win.
Last season the Mustangs advanced to their seventh-straight conference championship, finishing the year with a 8-12 record. The team returns two All-Commonwealth Conference Second Team honorees in senior Caitlin Dempsey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and junior Ariella Hopp (Jarrettsville, Md./Institute of Notre Dame). Dempsey was second on the team with eight goals while Hopp and senior Alyssa Russell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) led the team with three defensive saves each.
The Mustangs were picked to finish sixth in the Commonwealth Conference Preseason Poll picked by the leagues coaches. The team was ranked three points behind fifth place Alvernia.
Neumann finished last season with a 3-14 record. The Knights returns junior forward Lindsey Spatola who led the team with 16 points and seven goals a season ago as well as senior goalkeeper Lindsey Kasecamp who was named to the All-CSAC Second Team.
Stevenson will wrap-up opening weekend against Virginia Wesleyan at Neumann University on Saturday, August 31 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
