Box Score REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Molly O'Neil (Aurora, Colo./Colorado Selects) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, but the Mustangs could not overcome an early three-goal deficit as Connecticut College swept the weekend series with a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
The Mustangs (6-13-1), who were outshot 42-12, surrendered the game's first three goals in which eight different Camels registered a point in the opening 26 minutes.
The Camels (12-9-1) opened up scoring at 13:24 in the first on the third goal of the season by Shelley Moore with assists by Sam Schoeneberger and Olivia Farrell.
Connecticut College carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission where they improved to 8-0 when leading after the first period and 10-1 when scoring first.
The Camels opened up the second period with two more goals, the second coming on a 5-on-3 power play, after Stevenson was whistled for cross-checking and hooking 1:23 apart to take a three-goal lead.
Stevenson's 10 of their 13 losses have been by three goals or more.
O'Neil's goal at 10:42 in the second period was assisted by freshmen McKenzie Taggart (Centennial, Colo./Colorado Selects), who has a team-high seven, and Karly Vis (Murillo, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens).
Molly Murphy would cap the scoring for Connecticut College with 12:35 remaining in the game, for her first of the season and fifth of her career in 89 appearances.
Freshman Sarah Modzelewski (Bloomington, Ind./Little Caesars) finished with 38 saves for the Mustangs while Amy Leichliter stopped 11 shots for the Camels.
Stevenson will have two final opportunities to post its first win on home ice when the Mustangs host Utica to conclude their inaugural season next weekend. Saturday's face-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
