Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by a career-high 16 rebounds by junior Justin Kuntz and 18 points by senior Alfonzo Hawkins, the Stevenson men's basketball team posted a 75-52 victory over two-time Commonwealth Conference defending champion Alvernia Tuesday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (3-1, 1-0 MAC) posted their second win over a ranked opponent in the past three games. The team defeated then No. 18 Middlebury on Friday while Alvernia is currently receiving votes in this weeks D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.
After two ties and three lead changes in the early going, Stevenson took the lead for good after a three-pointer by junior Colby Giacubeno to make it 10-8 with 13:08 remaining in the first half.
A layup by Brian Parker and two made free throws from Kahlil Bennett cut the Crusaders (2-2, 0-1 MAC) deficit to 11 coming out of halftime. But that would be as close as they would get as the Mustangs would eventually push their lead to 26.
Stevenson's bench outscored their opponents' 26-1 and held a 46-34 advantage in rebounds.
Three other Mustangs joined Hawkins in double figures with senior Stefon McCray and sophomore Erik Fisher totaling 11 a piece while sophomore Christian Roberts chipped in 10.
Sophomore Tyrus Costly finished with a career-high four blocks.
Parker led Alvernia with 15 points and 13 rebounds, eight on the offensive end.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, November 30 when they travel to face NYU Poly in a non-conference matchup beginning at 3:00 p.m.
