OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's basketball freshman Darius Walker totaled 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals but Griffin Schamp scored the game winning layup with three seconds remaining to lift Birmingham Southern over the Mustangs, 70-69 at Owings Mills Gymansium Saturday in the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic.

The Mustangs (2-1) jumped out to a 10-2 lead and led by as many as 13 with 6:19 remaining in the first half after a layup by junior Erik Fisher.

But the Panthers (3-1) closed the half on a 17-4 run, highlighted by seven points from Griffin to tie the game at 36-36 at the half.

The second half featured four ties and nine lead changes including three in the final 1:19.

Birmingham Southern held its largest lead at the 17:58 mark of the second half after a three-pointer by Ross Welch.

Neither team led by more than three for the first 12 minutes of the half, until Stevenson held a six point lead with 7:38 remaining after two made free throws from junior Colby Giacubeno.

Larry Thomas hit his fourth three-pointer of the game to give the Panthers a one point advantage with 53 seconds remaining. Thomas finished with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting.

Down the other end, Fisher tipped in a missed jumper by junior Justin Kuntz to give the Mustangs a one point lead with 38 seconds left.

With the clock winding down, Schamp drove from the top of the lane to hit the game winner before sophomore Christian Roberts last second half court attempt fell short.

All five of Stevenson starters finished in double digits as Kuntz finished with 15, Fisher with 13, Roberts with 10 and senior Alfonzo Hawkins with 14. Fisher also added a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday, November 26 when they host a Commonwealth Conference contest with Alvernia beginning at 8:00 p.m.
