No. 20 Mustangs Drop First Game of Season at No. 13 Eastern in MAC Crossover

| Box Score 2

ST. DAVID'S, Pa. - Hampered by a .085 hitting percentage, the Stevenson women's volleyball team saw its school-record 24-game win streak come to an end on Saturday with a 26-24, 25-17, 25-18 loss at No. 13 Eastern in a Middle Atlantic Conference crossover. The Mustangs rebounded with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-27, 25-15 victory DeSales.

Stevenson (24-1) suffered its first loss since a 25-23, 25-18, 25-22 defeat to the Eagles in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship. Eastern is the only team to have beaten the Mustangs in their last 45 contests. During that time, the team is 43-2.

Stevenson totaled 35 kills in the opener, including 12 from junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) and 10 from junior Megan Miller (Wilmington, Del./St. Georges). However, the team was plagued by 25 attack errors, 12 of which came off blocks by the Eagles.

The Mustangs rallied from a 23-18 deficit in the first set to tie it at 23-23 before Eastern (19-2) edged out the two-point victory on back-to-back kills by Rikki Schlager and Kearby Benak.

Stevenson managed two leads in the second set, the last of which came at 4-3, but the team could not get ahead in the first or third despite 10 ties.

Isenberg added eight digs while Miller had five. Senior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) had 32 assists and six digs while junior Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) totaled 21 digs.

Benak was the lone Eagle to reach double-digit kills with 10. Lauren Sproles had nine while Stephanie Elechko and Katrina Pisch each added seven. Elechko added five total blocks and Benak had 10 digs.

Isenberg added 17 more kills against DeSales (10-10) while totaling 15 digs. In two games Saturday, she totaled 29 kills while posting a .303 hitting percentage and 23 digs. Miller had 14 kills while sophomore Imani Hudson (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) posted 11 kills and seven digs.

Junior Jenna Campbell (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) totaled six kills and 17 digs while Perillo surpassed the 20-dig plateau for the 12th time this season and for the fourth time in the last five games. Gieselman had 10 digs to go along with 55 assists.

Stevenson returns home to face Alvernia on Tuesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
