Marcus Holley Rushes For Career-High 168 Yards in 21-17 Loss at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Leading 17-0 after the third quarter, the Stevenson football team allowed three fourth-quarter touchdowns, the last of which came with just 27 seconds remaining as the Colonels rallied for a 21-17 victory Saturday at Schmidt Stadium.

The Mustangs (3-4, 2-4 MAC), who dropped their fourth-straight game after starting the season 3-0, totaled 225 yards rushing, 165 of which came from junior Marcus Holley (York, Pa./York County), setting a new career-high. He also had touchdown runs of 24 and five yards.

For the second-straight week, the Mustangs took a lead into halftime, holding a 14-0 advantage after junior Shane Clough (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's) picked off a Taylor Young pass in the end zone to halt a 14-play, 67-yard drive for Wilkes in the second quarter.

Senior Charlie Cornell (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) hit his seventh field goal of the season with 5:36 remaining in the third quarter to stay perfect on the season at 7-for-7.

The Colonels (3-4, 2-4 MAC) got on the board just 1:51 into the fourth quarter when wide receiver David Claybrook connected with Jonathan Conklin for a 65-yard touchdown pass after Claybrook took the handoff from Taylor on an end around.

Conklin added his second touchdown of the game on a 14-yard pass from Taylor with only 2:13 to play.

On the ensuing drive, Stevenson faced a 3rd-and-8 with 2:01 remaining, but was whistled for a false start and was forced to punt the ball back over to the Colonels with 1:04 to play.

Keyed by two passes from Taylor to Claybrook for 71 yards, Wilkes scored the go-ahead touchdown with just 27 seconds remaining after Young found Daniel Curry for a 1-yard pass, capping a 5-play, 75-yard drive that took a mere 37 seconds.

Starting his first game under center, junior Zach Jefferson (Accokeek, Md./Gwynn Park) totaled 142 yards through the air, completing eight attempts including a 39-yard pass to senior Jeromie Miller (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin). Jefferson added 18 yards rushing on five attempts.

Three different Stevenson defenders added seven tackles each in the game, including junior Donnell Brown (Baltimore, Md./Poly), who leads the team with 56 tackles on the season.

Young finished with 167 yards passing and two touchdowns while Claybrook had five catches for 110 yards and the 65-yard touchdown pass to Conklin who totaled three receptions for 88 yards and two scores. Tate Moore-Jacobs and Tyler Thomas each had 10 tackles for the Colonels.

The Mustangs return to action next Saturday when they host Misericordia beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Mustang Stadium.
