Brooks Totals Career-High 15 Saves, Mustangs Fall to No. 11 Messiah, 2-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson field hockey freshman Gabriella Brooks (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) totaled a career-high 15 saves, but No. 11 Messiah scored two second half goals to remain unbeaten in the Commonwealth Conference posting a 2-0 victory over the Mustangs Wednesday at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (9-9, 3-4 MAC), who is still looking to tie the school record for wins in a season at 10, was shutout for the second time in as many games, falling for the third time in the last four games at home.

After a scoreless first half, in which Brooks totaled 10 saves, Caroline Wulf scored her second game winning goal 14:34 into the second half. Brooke Sands scored an insurance goal for the Falcons (12-2, 6-0 MAC) with just under five minutes remaining in the half.

The Mustangs had an early opportunity early in the second half, when sophomore Rebecca Moreland (Parkville, Md./Mercy) registered three shots in a six second span, but all were saved by Molly Gebrosky who finished with nine.

Messiah held a 22-12 advantage in shots, including 12-3 in the first half.

Stevenson, who is currently in fifth place in the conference standings, wraps up the regular season on Saturday when they travel to face Albright beginning at 12:00 p.m. The top five teams advance to the 2013 Commonwealth Conference Field Hockey Championship. The Mustangs are one game ahead of both Alvernia and Albright, having posted a 4-1 win over Alvernia on October 12.
