Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by four kills from senior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key), the 18th-ranked Stevenson women's volleyball team rallied from an 18-9 deficit in the second set en route to a 25-19, 25-20, 34-32 non-conference victory over Gallaudet Thursday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The win was the 29th-straight at home for the Mustangs (28-1) and seventh consecutive this season. The last home loss for Stevenson came back on Sept. 21, 2011 when it fell to former Capital Athletic Conference rival Salisbury, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25.
Stevenson is now 41-4 in four seasons since Owings Mills Gymnasium opened on Sept. 1, 2010.
Isenberg finished with 15 kills and 12 digs to lead the Mustangs and now has 922 kills and 920 kills in three seasons as a Mustangs. She is on pace to become just the second player in school history to total 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs after Avery Gabbard '12 became the first a year ago.
After winning the first set, the Mustangs trailed 18-9 in the second before closing with a 16-2 run to win by five. Stevenson overcame a .091 hitting percentage while limiting the Bison (15-12) to just seven kills on 39 attempts and a .000 hitting percentage.
The Mustangs overcame five set points in the third set before edging out the two-point victory in what was the highest scoring set for the team since the 25-point era began in 2008. During that time, Stevenson has only had four sets reach 30 points, the last of which came last season at Messiah when the Mustangs won 31-29 in the third.
Junior Megan Miller (Wilmington, Del./St. Georges Tech) added 12 kills and two block assists while senior Jess Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) had three kills, 35 assists and three digs. Sophomore Luci Diaz (Ft. Meade, Md./Meade) had four kills.
Junior Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) totaled 18 digs and two of Stevenson's seven service aces. Senior Jenna Campbell (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) and sophomore Kara Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) also had two service aces.
Lane Peters totaled 14 kills for Gallaudet while Kali Frowick and Jasmine Jeter added seven each. Frowick and Kate Fetzer also had 13 digs.
Stevenson returns to action next Tuesday, October 22 when it hosts Lebanon Valley in a match-up of Commonwealth Conference unbeatens at Owings Mills Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
