Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - With two goals, Stevenson field hockey junior Caitlin Dempsey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) broke the school record for goals in a season, the second of which pulled the Mustangs within one, but a goal in the final two minutes allowed Elizabethtown to escape with a 5-3 victory Tuesday at Wolf Field.
Stevenson (9-7, 2-2 MAC) fell behind 4-1 before goals by Dempsey and sophomore Rebecca Moreland (Parkville, Md./Mercy) pulled Stevenson within one with less than nine minutes remaining.
Dempsey's second goal of the game was her 16th of the season, breaking the previous school record held by Kaitlyn May (15 in 2011) and Dawn McFarland (15 in 2003). With four points, Dempsey also became the first player in school history to score 40 points in a season.
Dempsey moved into sixth-place on the school's career goals list with 24.
The Blue Jays (9-4, 4-0 MAC), who held a 19-10 in shots, led 1-0 just 1:59 into the game before Dempsey tied the game six minutes later.
However, Elizabethtown would score three goals over the final 20 minutes of the first half and the first three minutes of the second to increase its lead to three.
Casey Fletcher finished with two goals for the Blue Jays while Kaylee Werner had a goal and an assist. Marlena Johnson had four saves.
Sophomore Katie Cavanaugh (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall) got the start and made seven saves for the Mustangs before giving way to freshman Gabriella Brooks (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) who suffered her fifth loss while making three saves.
Stevenson returns home to face Arcadia on Saturday at Mustang Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., on Homecoming and Family Weekend.
