Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - Stevenson women's volleyball junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) totaled 15 kills and seven digs as the Mustangs defeated Widener 25-19, 25-22, 25-16 in the Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams Thursday night at the Schwartz Center.
Stevenson (4-1, 1-0 MAC) was challenged only once in the match when the Pride's Angela DiMaria on serve gave them an 8-2 lead in the second set. After exhausting both timeouts, the Mustangs would rally to take the second set, 25-22.
Isenberg's 15 kills are a season-high and the most since she posted 19 against York (Pa.) in the semifinals of the CAC Volleyball Championship on Nov. 3, 2011.
Junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) totaled four kills, 37 assists and five digs. Senior Kristen Lubeski (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) had seven kills and four total blocks.
Senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) had eight kills and six digs, while sophomore libero Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) had 21 digs.
Widener (1-5, 0-1 MAC) was led by DiMaria who had seven kills, 15 digs and one ace. Maggie Greenberg dished out 23 assists.
The Mustangs host the Stevenson Invitational on Saturday facing Cairn (formerly Philadelphia Biblical), Bridgewater (Va.) and Mary Washington.
Game times are set for 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
