YORK, Pa. - Stevenson women's volleyball junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) had 13 kills and 10 digs versus Grove City while senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) tied a season-high with 16 kills and added a career-high 19 digs against No. 19 Eastern as the Mustangs won the York College Spartan Invitational.
Stevenson (19-2) swept Grove City 25-12, 25-12, 25-19 and defeated Eastern in the championship game, 19-25, 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 15-10.
The Mustangs' victory over Eastern was their first over a ranked opponent in school history.
Against Grove City (9-7), sophomore Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) had 17 digs while sophomore Megan Miller (Wilmington, Del./St. Georges Tech) had six kills and five total blocks.
In the second game versus Eastern (16-3), the Mustangs had four players in double-digit kills including Isenberg who had 10, Gabbard with 12, Miller with 16 and freshman Imani Hudson (Burke, Va./Thomas Edison) with 15.
Perillo and Isenberg added 39 and 25 digs, respectively, both season-highs. Gabbards's previous career-high in digs was 18 set against Mary Washington on Sept. 3, 2010 at the EMU Hampton Inn & Sleep Inn Invitational.
Junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) had six kills, 52 assists, 13 digs and two block assists.
For the tournament, Miller had 37 kills, 10 digs and 12 total blocks in just three games.
Stevenson returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Arcadia in a Commonwealth Conference contest at Owings Mills Gymnasium. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
