Hopp Scores Mustangs' Lone Goal in Commonwealth Loss at Arcadia

Box Score

GLENSIDE, Pa. - Stevenson field hockey sophomore Ariella Hopp (Jarrettsville, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) scored with just over 13 minutes remaining to pull the Mustangs within one, but Arcadia added an insurance goal with under five minutes left to carry the Knights to a 3-1 Commonwealth Conference victory Saturday at home.

Stevenson (5-6, 1-1 MAC) matched Arcadia in shots at nine apiece and held a 7-3 advantage in the second half, but it could not muster the tying goal due in large part to six second-half saves by Mia DePlato and a defensive save by Taylor Dalisera.

Marilyn Beatty and Jennie Kamel each had four points for the Knights (8-1, 2-0 MAC) who won their sixth-straight game and improved their record to 8-0 at home this season. Beatty had a goal and two assists while Kamel scored two goals.

Beatty started the scoring just over nine minutes into the game with an unassisted tally before Kamel scored just 53 seconds later off an assist from Beatty to give Arcadia a 2-0 lead.

The Knights held its two-goal advantage late into the second half when Hopp scored her third goal of the season unassisted with 13:20 remaining following a Mustang penalty corner.

However, the tandem of Kamel and Beatty struck again with only 4:18 remaining in the game to seal the victory for Arcadia.

DePlato finished the game with six saves while freshman Katie Cavanaugh (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall) had two for Stevenson.

After a three-game road trip, the Mustangs return home to face Hood on Tuesday at Mustang Stadium. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
