Box Score 2 YORK, Pa. - Stevenson women's volleyball sophomore Megan Miller (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Tech) totaled a career-high 16 kills versus No. 9 SUNY Cortland while senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) had eight kills against FDU-Florham as the Mustangs split two games on the opening day of the York College Spartan Invitational Friday.
The Mustangs (17-2) lost in five sets to SUNY Cortland 26-28, 25-18, 25-11, 19-25, 16-14 before sweeping FDU-Florham, 25-8, 25-15, 25-13.
The loss to the Red Dragons (18-1) snapped Stevenson's 13-game winning streak.
Four Mustangs registered double-digit kills against Cortland, including Miller, Gabbard, junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) and freshman Imani Hudson (Burke, Va./Thomas Edison). Miller's previous career-high in kills was 13 set against York (Pa.) at home on Oct. 12, 2011.
Isenberg also added 17 digs while Gabbard had five service aces.
Junior Jenna Campbell (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) recorded 14 digs while junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) dished 54 assists and seven digs.
In the second game versus FDU-Florham (1-12), the Mustangs put forth a combined team effort as 15 players saw action. Gabbard led the way with eight kills and senior Kristen Lubeski (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) added six. Gieselman had two kills, 31 assists, six digs and one block assist.
The win over the Devils avenges a 26-24, 21-25, 26-24, 18-25, 11-15 loss to them a year ago in the title game of the Stevenson Invitational.
Stevenson continues play in the Spartan Invitational on Saturday against Grove City at 10:00 a.m. The championship and consolation games will follow.
