Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson field hockey freshman Amy Tamarana (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) and sophomore Ariella Hopp (Jarrettsville, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) scored one goal each, but Rowan used a 3-0 run midway through the second half to seal a 5-2 victory Thursday at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (3-4) lost their second-straight at home and their third out of the last four overall. The team is now 2-3 at home this season.
Tamarana pulled the Mustangs within one with 2:23 to go in the first half on an assist from freshman Karen Mata (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson), but the Profs ran off three unanswered goals as they pulled away for the three-goal victory.
Hopp scored Stevenson's final goal, unassisted on a rebound, with two minutes remaining in the game to provide the final margin.
Rowan (4-2) started the scoring when Erika Mecchella scored the first of her two goals off a helper from Jenna O'Sullivan on the team's second penalty corner of the game. The Profs finished the game with 14 penatly corners compared to just six for the Mustangs.
Leading 1-0, Karlee Henderson doubled the Profs' lead on an unassisted tally after Erin Bernat's shot was cleared off the line by sophomore Margaret Gill (White Hall, Md./North Harford). Gill tied Hopp with a team-leading seven defensive saves a season ago.
The Profs would tack on three second-half goals from Mecchella, Marisa Marini and Kelsey O'Neill.
Freshman Katie Cavanaugh (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall) stopped nine shots while Steph Colombo had five for Rowan.
Stevenson hosts Widener in its Commonwealth Conference opener Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
