Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. - Led by a game-high 11 kills and 10 digs from junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) and nine kills and a game-high 15 digs from senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck), the Stevenson women's volleyball team swept Lebanon Valley on the road Wednesday at LVC Gymnasium, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.
The Mustangs (9-1, 3-0 MAC) have now won six consecutive games and are undefeated and atop the standings in their first season in the Commonwealth Conference.
The Dutchmen (6-5, 1-2 MAC) have won the last four Commonwealth Conference championships, sweeping top-seeded Messiah a year ago in the conference tournament, 26-24, 25-21, 25-23. However, the Falcons swept this season's regular season match-up on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-19, 25-17.
Stevenson did not trail in the opening set en route to taking a 1-0 lead despite neither team putting up impressive offensive numbers. The Mustangs totaled just eight kills and a .069 hitting percentage while Lebanon Valley had only six kills and posted a minus-.118 hitting percentage.
In the second set, Stevenson jumped out to a 10-6 lead before the Dutchmen rallied to take an 11-10 advantage. Holding a one-point lead at 14-13, the Mustangs closed the set with an 11-4 run to go in front 2-0.
The third set was back-and-forth, featuring 11 ties and six lead changes before Lebanon Valley built its largest lead of the night at five, 17-12. However, behind the serve of Gabbard and junior Stacey Rex (Finksburg, Md./Westminster), Stevenson closed the set and the game with a 13-3 run.
Sophomore Megan Miller (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Tech) totaled seven kills and seven total blocks for the Mustangs while junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) had five kills, 29 assists and six digs. Sophomore Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) had 13 digs.
For Lebanon Valley (6-5, 1-2 MAC), Megan Schoch had a team-high five kills, but the team hit just .017 with 23 kills and 21 attack errors. Jess Finlayson had 11 digs while Emily Sides had two kills, 12 assists and 10 digs.
Stevenson returns home to Owings Mills Gymnasium on Saturday to host a tri-match with Rowan and Cazenovia beginning at 10:00 a.m.
