TOWSON, Md. - Led by 24 kills and 14 digs from senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and 21 kills and 16 digs from junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key), the Stevenson women's volleyball team opened its season with back-to-back victories over Catholic and SUNY Brockport Saturday at the Giovanni Memorial Tournament hosted by Goucher.
The Mustangs (2-0) opened with a straight-set win over Catholic 25-18, 25-19, 26-24 before posting a 25-12, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17 against SUNY Brockport.
Isenberg had 10 kills and 11 digs against the Cardinals (0-1) while Gabbard added a game-high 15 kills to go along with eight digs. Junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) totaled seven kills, 41 assists and eight digs.
Sophomore Megan Miller (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Tech) posted 10 kills, her fourth career game with at least 10 and three short of her career-high set versus York (Pa.) on Oct. 12, 2011.
In her first career game, freshman Imani Hudson (Burke, Va./Thomas Edison) had six kills.
Defensively, sophomore Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) had a game-high 19 digs.
In the second game versus SUNY Brockport (0-2), Gabbard and Isenberg combined for 20 kills and 11 digs with Isenberg totaling a game-high 11 kills. Gabbard and Hudson each totaled nine kills while Gieselman had 46 assist. Miller added seven kills and Perillo had 15 digs.
