Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by 24 points from Stevenson men's basketball junior Brett Burrier (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and 14 points from senior Greg Collins (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech), the Mustangs posted a 75-70 upset over York (Pa.) on an emotional night Wednesday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson (6-17, 3-11 CAC) snapped a five-game losing streak against the Spartans who entered the game in third place in the CAC standings.
Burrier and Collins combined for seven of Stevenson's 10 three-pointers as they were 7-of-11 from behind the arc. The team finished 10-for-20 from three-point range and over the last three games have totaled 29 three-pointers.
Burrier was 6-for-10 from the floor, 4-for-5 from three-point range and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. He totaled 16 of his 24 points in the second half.
After York (13-9, 8-5 CAC) trimmed an 18-point second-half deficit down to just three with 2:11 remaining in the second half, Burrier responded with a three-point play to push the lead back to six and the Mustangs were able to seal their second-straight win at home by hitting 6-of-8 free throws in the final 31 seconds.
Stevenson, who committed just 13 turnovers, three shy of its season-low, led 41-31 at halftime after hitting 14-of-31 attempts from the floor, including seven three-pointers.
Collins added four rebounds, three assists and four steals to go along with his 14 points. Sophomore Jason Jones (Baltimore, Md./St. Francis) added eight points and four rebounds while junior Jason Scroggins (Baltimore, Md./Boys' Latin) had seven points and four rebounds.
Prior to the game, the Mustangs honored Collins who was playing in the final home game of his career while taking a moment of silence for Scroggins' father, Mark Scroggins, Sr., who died suddenly of a heart attack Monday night.
Julian Watson led the Spartans with 15 points while todd Maciejewski totaled 14 points and 12 rebounds. Mo Oursler had 13 points.
Stevenson returns to action next Wednesday, February 15 when it travels to Fredericksburg, Virginia for a CAC contest at Mary Washington. Tip-off is at 8:00 p.m.
