Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's basketball junior Sam Murray (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) posted her fourth double double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds while junior Rayshell Parker (Odenton, Md./Meade) added eight points and 10 rebounds in a 60-43 CAC victory over Hood Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The win was the third consecutive for the Mustangs (9-12, 5-8 CAC), their first three game win streak since Feb. 23, 2007. It was also their fifth conference win of the season, the team's most since joining the CAC prior to the 2007-08 season.
In addition, Stevenson moved a game-and-a-half ahead of Frostburg State for the sixth and final spot in the CAC Women's Basketball Championship. The Mustangs are one-game behind St. Mary's (Md.) for the fifth spot.
For Murray, it was her fourth career double double and third in the last five games. She has led the team in rebounding in each of the last five games and nine overall this season.
Parker posted her second game of the season with at least 10 rebounds, finishing two shy of her career-high set in the season-opener at Arcadia.
With the game tied at 14-14 in the first half, Stevenson finished on an 11-0 run to take a 25-14 halftime lead. Murray totaled 10 points and eight rebounds in the opening half while Parker had four points and four rebounds.
The Mustangs stretched their lead to as many as 27 in the second half while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor and hitting 10-of-17 free throw attempts.
Senior Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) finished with 12 points, four rebounds and four assists, totaling eight points and four assists in the second half.
For the second-straight game, all 14 players played for Stevenson, with 11 scoring at least one point. Senior Katey Briggs (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) had four points and a season-high five rebounds.
Emily Maerz led Hood (6-15, 2-11 CAC) with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Dyanna Prater added 14 points. Rachel Wiley had seven points and seven rebounds.
Stevenson hosts York (Pa.) on Senior Night this Wednesday, February 8 at Owings Mills Gymnasium in the final home game of the 2011-12 season.
