Jason Jones Scores Career-High 18 Points in 75-67 Home Loss to Hood

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's basketball sophomore Jason Jones (Baltimore, Md./St. Francis) scored a career-high 18 points and the Mustangs made 10 three-pointers, but a 7-0 run over the final 2:24 of the first half proved to be the difference as Hood posted a 75-67 victory Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

Stevenson (5-17, 2-11 CAC) jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the game's first 5:19, but a 12-3 run by the Blazers tied the game at 16-16 with 9:01 remaining in the opening half.

With the score tied at 22-22, a quick 5-0 burst gave Hood its first lead with 5:11 to play.

The Mustangs would pull within one, 30-29, on a three-pointer by Jones with 3:18 left, before the Blazers scored the final seven points, including five from Reggie Daniels, to take a 37-29 halftime lead.

Back-to-back lay-ups by LaVar Rich and Cameron Cook, gave Hood its largest lead of the game at 41-30 with 19:13 remaining in the second half before Stevenson cut it to one on three different occassions, the last of which came at 58-57 with 5:17 to play.

However, the Mustangs could not regain the lead as the Blazers made 9-of-11 free throws in the final 3:54 to snap a three-game losing streak and a three-game road skid.

Junior Brett Burrier (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) added 16 points and senior Greg Collins (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) had 15 for Stevenson (5-17, 2-11 CAC), but the team was outrebounded 39-27 and was just 13-for-24 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Stefon McCray (Milton, Fla./Archbishop Curley) had seven points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

Ramon Smith led Hood (13-9, 5-8 CAC) with a game-high 19 points and was one of four players in double figures for the Blazers who outscored the Mustangs 42-18 in points in the paint. Cook had 16 points while Rich totaled 15 points and eight rebounds. Justin Stone added 11 points.

Stevenson hosts York (Pa.) on Senior Night this Wednesday, February 8 at Owings Mills Gymnasium in the final home game of the 2011-12 season.
