Mustangs Conclude Season in CAC First Round With 62-56 Loss at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - In its first playoff game in five years, the Stevenson women's basketball team had three players score in double figures, but Salisbury scored 23 points from the free throw line en route to a 62-56 victory Wednesday at the Maggs Physical Activities Center in the first round of the CAC Women's Basketball Championship.

The Mustangs (10-16), who won 10 games for the first time since the 2006-07 season and made their first playoff appearance since the 2007-08 season, shot 40.4 percent from the floor and were 5-for-8 from three-point range.

Senior Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) scored 12 points in her final game and senior Daniela Poss (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) had four points and three rebounds. Senior Katey Briggs (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) was with the team, but did not play following a season-ending knee injury at Mary Washington last Wednesday.

Tuesday's game featured eight ties and six lead changes and was tied at 34-34 with 15:38 remaining in the second half.

The Sea Gulls (15-10) jumped out to a 48-42 lead with 9:23 to play before a 7-2 run by the Mustangs, pulled them within one with 6:20 left.

However, Salisbury answered with a 9-1 run to take its largest lead of the game, 59-50 with 30 seconds remaining.

The Sea Gulls scored nine of their final 16 points from the free throw line where they were 23-for-29 for the game, including 17-for-21 in the second half. They also scored 21 points off turnovers and held a 41-34 edge in rebounding.

Junior Sam Murray (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) led Stevenson with 13 points and seven rebounds while freshman Kyarra Harmon (Waldorf, Md./North Point) added 12 points and four rebounds.

Anna Hackett scored a game-high 14 points for Salisbury and Nicole Sisco added 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Cinthia Ruiz added 10 points.
