Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Megan Alexander (Redondo Beach, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) scored the game-winner 13:54 into the second period, en route to three unanswered goals as the Mustangs defeat fellow independent newcomer the University of New England 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Harold Alfond Forum.
Stevenson (4-3) notched it's fourth consecutive win over a Division III opponent, their only intra-divisional loss came in their inaugural game at Buffalo State on October 26.
After an uneventful first period, with each team failing to capitalize on its power-play opportunities, the Nor'Easters struck first on Jenni Poulin's team leading fourth goal of the season at 2:49 in the second.
The Mustangs ten minutes later would tally a pair of goals 1:37 apart, first by leading scorer freshman McKenzie Taggart (Centennial, Colo./Colorado Selects) and then Alexander's game-winner.
Taggart ended a streak of surrendering 14 unanswered goals, a span of 92:59 over three games, for the Mustangs.
Freshman Jessie Capanelli (Lancaster, Pa./West Chester Quakers) would add an insurance goal for Stevenson off helpers from club teammates Emma Sunness (Fort Collins, Colo./Colorado Selects) and Molly O'Neil (Aurora, Colo./Colorado Selects), their first and third assists of the season, respectively.
Freshman Anastassia Nelson (San Antonio, Texas/Ohio Flames) earned her first win of the season making 30 stops.
The Nor'Easters (0-6) netminder Samantha Scobee made 37 saves.
The Mustangs and the University of New England will conclude their two-game series tomorrow with opening face-off set for 12:00 p.m.
