Box Score

WINCHENDON, Mass. - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Molly O'Neil (Aurora, Colo./Colorado Selects) scored the first two points of her career with two goals, including the game-tying and game-winning tallies as the Mustangs won their second-straight game with a 3-1 victory over Franklin Pierce Friday at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

Stevenson (2-1), who held a 32-28 edge in shots and a 35-23 advantage in faceoffs won, also got two points from freshman McKenzie Taggart (Centennial, Colo./Colorado Selects) as she finished with one goal and one assist.

Defensively, freshman Mackenzie Bruch (Hiram, Ga./Boston Shamrocks) totaled 27 saves in her first collegiate start. She is the third different Mustang to start in goal this season and the third to total at least 27 saves.

Stevenson also killed off all nine of the Ravens' power play opportunities.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net through the first two periods while totaling 19 shots apiece. However, Franklin Pierce (0-3) would break the scoreless tie 2:38 into the third period when Sarah Sheils scored her first goal of the season off an assist by Cassie Craig.

The Mustangs would tie the game for the second time just 1:32 later when O'Neil scored the first of her career on assists by Taggart and freshman Jessie Capanelli (Lancaster, Pa./West Chester Quakers) who picked up her first point of the season on the play.

The assist was Taggart's team-leading third of the season and she now leads the team with four points through the first three games.

Capanelli registered her second assist at 11:23 of the third period when she was credited with the primary assist on O'Neil's second goal of the game which proved to be the game-winner. Freshman Tori Emoff (Oakwood, Ohio/Culver Academy) also earned an assist for her first career point.

Taggart would net her first career goal at 19:59 with an empty-net goal to cap the margin of victory.

Stevenson and Franklin Pierce will conclude their two-game series on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
