Mustangs Finish Unbeaten in Conference, Sweep Blue Jays on Senior Night

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's volleyball senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) totaled a game-high 16 kills to go along with seven digs as the Mustangs finished unbeaten in the Commonwealth Conference this season with a 25-17. 25-21, 25-13 victory over Elizabethtown Wednesday at Owings Mills Gymnasium on Senior Night.

With the win, Stevenson (29-2, 9-0 MAC) secured the top-seed in the 2012 Commonwealth Conference Women's Volleyball Championship and ran its win to 13-straight, tying its season-high set from September 6 to September 25.

In addition, the Mustangs moved within one game of posting their second-straight 30-win season. A year ago, the team finished with a school record 31 wins after advancing to the program's first-ever NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.

Fittingly, on a night in which the team honored its three seniors, Gababrd, Kristen Lubeski (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) and Emilee Ceroy (Davidsonville, Md./South River), the school's career kills leader led the way as Gabbard raised her career total to 1,274. Her biggest contribution came in the first set where she totaled eight of her 16 kills as Stevenson rallied from a 5-0 deficit.

Gabbard added five more kills in the third set as the Mustangs closed out their 20th consecutive win at home, remaining unbeaten in 12 games this season. The Mustangs have yet to lose a set at Owings Mills Gymnasium which is important to note because the team has home court advantage throughout the conference tournament.

Lubeski, who has totaled a career-best 172 kills and 70 total blocks as a senior, added seven kills and five block assists against the Blue Jays.

As a team, Stevenson had 19 total blocks while holding Elizabethtown to a .000 hitting percentage.

Freshman Imani Hudson (Burke, Va./Thomas Edison) had seven kills and four total blocks while sophomore Megan Miller (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Tech) added five kills and four block assists. Junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) totaled six kills and 11 digs.

Sophomore Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) totaled a game-high 13 digs while junior Jenna Campbell (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) had 10 digs to go along with five service aces. Junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) toaled three kills, 36 assists and seven digs.

Mary Clyne led the Blue Jays (19-8, 5-2 MAC) with three kills, 16 assists and seven digs. Carolyn Lukiewski also had a game-high 13 digs.

Stevenson will now be idle for eight days until October 26 when it opens play in the Seahawk Invitational hosted by St. Mary's (Md.).
