READING, Pa. - Stevenson women's basketball freshman Abby DeFeo (Columbia, Md./River Hill) scored a career-high 10 points off the bench, but an 8-1 run in the final four minutes gave Alvernia a 65-57 victory over its future Commonwealth Conference rival Saturday at the Physical Education Center.

The Mustangs (5-7) were led by the second career double double from senior Daniela Poss (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) who finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Her first career double double came in a 55-40 victory at Hood on Feb. 5, 2011 when she totaled 17 points and 11 rebounds, both career-highs.

Leading 53-52 with 4:48 remaining in the second half, the Crusaders (5-5) used an 8-1 run over the next 3:46 to take its largest lead of the game at eight points with 1:02 to play.

During the run, Stevenson was 0-for-3 from the floor with three turnovers. Meanwhile, Alvernia finished the game 8-for-8 from the free throw line to snap a two-game losing streak.

Despite holding the edge in every statistical category, including points in the paint, fast break points and bench points, and posting a better shooting percentage, the Mustangs committed 32 turnovers while allowing 26 free throw attempts, 19 of which were converted by the Crusaders.

Junior Sam Murray (Reisterstown/St. Paul's School for Girls) had 12 points and eight rebounds while freshman Pee-Jay Gunn (Cheltenham, Md./Frederick Douglas) had four points, four rebounds and four assists.

Angela Altemose led Alvernia with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Julie Hahn and Kelli McIntyre had 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Stevenson hosts a CAC contest with Frostburg State on Wednesday, January 11 at Owings Mills Gymnasium beginning at 6:00 p.m.
