Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's basketball senior Greg Collins (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) finished with 23 points, one shy of his career-high, but a 7-2 run late in the second half carried Salisbury to a 63-56 victory Wednesday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (4-15, 1-9 CAC) trailed by only three, 52-49 with 8:31 remaining in the second half, before the Sea Gulls jumped out to a 59-51 advantage with 1:35 to play thanks to five points from Tim Harwood.
Stevenson was down by six with 1:17 left, but Salisbury was 4-for-6 from the free throw line in the last 41 seconds to preserve the victory and snap a four-game losing streak.
The Sea Gulls (10-8, 3-6 CAC) led 19-18 with 7:19 remaining in the first half before a 19-7 run over the next 6:11 gave them their largest lead of the game at 13 points. They would take an 11-point advantage into halftime, 38-27.
Collins totaled his eighth career 20-point game, including fifth this season, while sophomore Stefon McCray (Milton, Fla./Archbishop Curley) had 14 points. Both finished with a game-high seven rebounds. Sophomore Jason Jones (Baltimore, Md./St. Francis) scored 11 points, nine of which came from three-point range where he was 3-for-4.
Salisbury (10-8, 3-6 CAC), who scored 30 points in the paint and 23 off of 27 Stevenson turnovers, was led by Mike Maczko who had 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Devin Posey and Tim Harwood each scored 12 points.
The Sea Gulls won both match-ups this season after the Mustangs swept the season series a year ago.
Stevenson travels to Frostburg State on Saturday. Game time is at 3:00 p.m.
