Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Led by nine points each from junior Brett Burrier (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and sophomores Stefon McCray (Milton, Fla./Archbishop Curley) and Joe Hindle (Clarksville, Md./River Hill), a balanced attack by the Stevenson men's basketball team fell short in a 72-57 loss to Hood Monday at BB&T Arena.
The Mustangs (4-14, 1-8 CAC) shot 50.0 percent from the floor in even second half statistically, but were outscored by 12 after the Blazers shot 54.8 percent, hitting five more field goals on seven more attempts.
Stevenson led by as many as seven points in the first half after a 9-0 run gave the team an 18-11 advantage with 6:32 remaining.
However, Hood (12-6, 4-5 CAC) finished the half on a 17-7 run to take a 28-25 halftime lead.
The Mustangs would regain the lead midway through the second half, 43-42 on a three-pointer by junior Jason Scroggins (Baltimore, Md./Boys' Latin) with 10:45 to play.
The Blazers would respond with a 13-2 run to take a 10-point advantage with 7:09 left en route to their third-straight home victory and seventh in 10 this season at the new BB&T Arena.
Burrier finished with nine points and six rebounds while Hindle was 3-for-4 from three-point range. Senior Greg Collins (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) had five points and nine rebounds and junior Brandon Carroll (Randallstown, Md./Archbishop Curley) totaled five rebounds and a season-high six assists.
Ramon Smith and Cameron Cook each had 14 points to lead four players in double figures for Hood. Reggie Daniels and Lavar Rich both scored 11 while Brenden Straughn had six points, four rebounds, nine assists and four steals.
Stevenson returns home to face rival Salisbury on Wednesday beginning at 8:00 p.m.
