OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson field hockey freshman Alison Kagel (Turnersville/Washington Township) scored her first career point on a goal just 5:28 into overtime to give the Mustangs their first win of the season, 3-2 against Shenandoah in the Black-Eyed Susan Tournament at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (1-1) was involved in three overtime games last season and has been in 10 overtime games since 2008, totaling a 6-4 record.

The Hornets (0-2) led 1-0 less than a minute into the game on a goal by Liz Grover, but the Mustangs answered with two quick goals in a 56 second span, both by senior Ashley Beam (Reisterstown/North Carroll), to give the Mustangs a 2-1 advantage at the half.

Beam tallied a point for the second-straight game since moving from defense to offense this season. She totaled five points with two goals and one assist and leads the team with six points in two games. Her two goals this afternoon marked the first of her career.

Senior Brittany Martin (Hampstead/Hereford) also registered a point for the second-straight game, assisting on Beam's second goal.

Shenandoah tied the game for the second time in the second half at 2-2 on a goal by Katie Johnson.

Stevenson rallied for the victory despite being on the short end of a 14-9 margin in shots and a 14-3 margin in penalty corners.

Junior Kelsi Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) record six saves to earn her first career win. Sophomores Sarah Rixham (Abingdon/Patterson Mills) and Rachel Guzman (Gwynn Oak/Mount de Sales) each registered a defensive save.

Justina Ludwig made two saves for the Hornets.

Stevenson faces Immaculata tomorrow at 4:00 p.m., in the final game of the Black-Eyed Susan Tournament.
