Megan Miller Leads Mustangs in Tri-Match Sweep of Messiah, Gallaudet

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson women's volleyball team improved its record to 6-2 at home on Saturday as it swept a tri-match with future MAC rival Messiah and former CAC rival Gallaudet at Owings Mills Gymnasium, defeating the Falcons 25-23, 21-25, 25-27, 25-13, 16-14 before dispatching Gallaudet, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22.

The Mustangs (14-2) had to overcome a season-high 17 service errors as well as 26 attack errors to rally from a 2-1 deficit versus Messiah.

Freshman Megan Miller (Middletown/St. Georges Tech) led Stevenson with a career-high 11 kills and three service aces while sophomore Christine Isenberg (Taneytown/Francis Scott Key) was one kill shy of her sixth double double with nine kills and 11 digs.

Junior Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) finished with a game-high 15 kills and freshman Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) had a team-high 18 digs.

Sophomore Jessica Gieselman (Westminster/Winters Mill) had 48 assists against Messiah and finished the day with 83 assists to go along with eight kills.

The Falcons (10-3) were led by Lauren Rees who posted a double double with 14 kills and 17 digs. As a team, Messiah totaled 103 digs with three players totaling at least 17. Megan Wise had a game-high 32.

Gabbard also led the Mustangs with a game-high 11 kills versus Gallaudet while Perillo had a game-high 17 digs. Isenberg added eight kills and six digs and senior Brooke Gilley (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) had seven kills.

Gallaudet (9-6) was led by Paige Johnson who had 10 kills and seven digs. The Bison totaled 61 digs with four players registering at least 10, led by a team-high 16 from Mari Klassen.

Stevenson finishes its four-game homestand on Tuesday when it hosts a non-conference contest with Johns Hopkins at Owings Mills Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m. The two teams last met on Sept. 23, 2009 with the Blue Jays winning at home 25-21, 25-22, 25-12 at Goldfarb Gymnasium.
