Mustangs Sweeps Tri-Match With Wins Over St. Mary's (Md.), Penn State Altoona

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Stevenson women's volleyball team picked up two wins on Saturday with back-to-back wins in a tri-match at St. Mary's (Md.), posting a 25-8, 25-5, 23-25, 25-17 victory over the Seahawks and a 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 25-11 win over Penn State Altoona at Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.

The Mustangs (10-1, 2-0 CAC) have dropped only five sets in their 11 matches this year and have their best start to a season since 2008 when they began 15-0.

Sophomore Christine Isenberg (Taneytown/Francis Scott Key) led the team posting double doubles in both games with 14 kills and 21 digs in the first game, and 16 kills and 10 digs in the second.

As a team, Stevenson totaled a .344 hitting percentage with 53 kills and only eight errors, in the game against the host Seahawks (2-8). Senior Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) and freshman Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) combined for 35 digs, registering 17 and 18, respectively.

Junior Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) registered 12 kills while senior Kristin Steinnagel (Eldersburg/Liberty) had seven kills for a .429 hitting percentage.

Four players registered at least 10 digs for St. Mary's, while Gena Hlavinka led the team with nine kills.

Isenberg added 16 more kills and 10 digs versus Penn-State Altoona as the Mustangs posted 15 total blocks, 58 kills and 89 digs. Gabbard had a team high 17 kills. Sophomore Jessica Gieselman (Westminster/Winters Mill) totaled four kills, 16 digs, and two total blocks to go along with her 45 assists.

Perillo finished with a team high 21 digs while Carney recoded 16.

Samantha Link led the Lions with team highs 16 kills and 24 digs.

Stevenson finishes its four-game road trip on Monday when they travel to face local rival McDaniel in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
